After months of positive COVID tests and uncertainty, college football players are taking matters into their own hands. Top players like Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are endoring the creation of college players association, calling for the players to unite and demand that their conferences and the NCAA take their health and safety seriously before playing. If a union is what it takes to protect athletes, some are supporting the idea. Others don't want the amateur ideal of college sports to be diminished. What do you think? 🏈

College football players have been exploited for far too long by the NCAA, their respective conferences and their schools. If a union is what is needed protect their interests, the athletes should form it.

Progress in the form of fair treatment has been slow for college athletes, whether it is the ability to get compensated beyond scholarships or having less rigid transfer rules. These are things that took decades to get and it should take decades to make things more fair for players who are not only putting their bodies on the line but bringing in millions of dollars.

Support players and support a players association.

College athletes aren't employees. They are students first. Allowing players to form a union will only push college sports away from the amateurism that draws some fans in.

People don't look at these athletes like professionals and they shouldn't. College players are integral to the colleges and communities they represent without the incentive of money. They do need to be fairly supported, but a union would only push these players closer to being hired guns rather than members of a community.

College football players need more support, but a players association isn't the answer.
