Did the Democratic debates change your mind?

The Democratic candidates for president have survived their first round of debates. While some candidates used the opportunity to break out on a national stage others floundered.. However, a substantial number of viewers went into this first round of debates with their hearts and minds set on a specific candidate. With stages packed with candidates both nights, some candidates never had a chance to differentiate themselves from the rest of the field. Did anyone change your mind?

FiveThirtyEight reports after the debates there was a substantial swing of support away from Joe Biden and towards Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren.

Harris’s second-night performance doubled her support; she went from just under 8 percent before Night 1 to almost 17 percent percent now. Much of that support came from voters who previously said they were backing Warren or Joe Biden. Speaking of Biden: He lost a bunch of voters — mostly to Harris, but also to Warren, Buttigieg and others. We’ll have to see whether these shifts stick or if voters keep moving around in the next few days and weeks. (We’ll have another update on Monday.)

Julián Castro and Cory Booker both experienced bumps in support after strong showings in the first night of debates.

Some saw the debates merely as an opportunity to prove they were right to support their candidate.

While percentages of support may have shifted, the overall dynamics of the race remained the same. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, specifically, continue to fight for the left wing of the party.
