Are you worried about coronavirus?

The novel coronavirus is spreading in communities across the world. For some, there is a lot of reason to worry. First and foremost, the government response has been ineffective at best, with others going as far as saying there is an active cover-up to protect reputations and economic growth over doing what is needed. This has been reflected in stock market sell-offs in markets across the world and panic-buying as people stock up on supplies like masks, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer.

However, medical professionals say while people should take the coronavirus seriously, there's nothing to panic over. Unlike the flu, the coronavirus can be contained. There certainly are challenges ahead, but it's not inevitable that the worst-case scenario will happen. Simple measures like washing your hands regularly, not touching your face, and self-quarantining, if you don't feel well, can go a long way in slowing and stopping the spread of the virus.

People are worried about the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus. Part of the reason why there has been a global spread of the disease so quickly is because of the Chinese failure to address the initial outbreak of the disease. The cover-up made it worse. In a similar fashion, people are worried Trump officials are more worried about appearances than tackling the virus with all resources possible.

This isn't the first time that the world has dealt with a new disease. While it may take some extra precautions, the worst case scenario didn't happen in the past, and more likely than not won't happen now. There's no reason to panic. Just wash your hands and don't touch your face.
