Is Sakura from ‘Naruto’ actually useless or an underrated hero?

There are some TV characters everyone just seems to love to hate. Scrappy-Doo? Can’t stand him. Walter White’s wife, Skyler? So self-righteous. Then there’s Sakura Haruno, the one person dragging down the delight that is “Naruto.” A large amount of people rail on the fact that Sakura is a completely useless character, contributing nothing aside from being incredibly annoying. However, some argue the opposite—Sakura actually has great character development and skills. What do you think?

Sakura Haruno joins the main crew in “Naruto” as a whiny freeloader and pretty much stays that way. Her main driving force seems to be her obsession with Sasuke, quintessential emo-boy-with-baggage who Sakura stands with—no matter how messed up his actions are—for purely shallow reasons. Aside from that, she really has no point on the show.

On a super personal level, Sakura has done some pretty shady things. Remember that one time she “confessed” to Naruto—who held a torch for Sakura for a long time—that she feels the same way? Or how, like, the bravest thing she does is give herself a haircut, and it’s basically downhill from there? Yeah, okay, whatever, that was symbolic, but she does just sit there and stare while Naruto and Sasuke get their asses beat for the most part.

Sakura haters need to cool their jets. Okay, sure, she’s kind of annoying when we’re first introduced to her. But who wasn’t annoying at some point in their lives? Some of the world’s greatest heroes are the ones that have the biggest character developments, and Sakura is no different—she grows and matures, becoming stronger and braver as “Naruto” goes on.

Besides, her "terrible" decisions are only terrible on the surface level; when you really look at them, Sakura has a far deeper reasoning for her actions. In fact, one may argue that her primary driving force is loyalty, which causes her to make such hard decisions and, ultimately, allows her to see Sasuke for the good guy he truly is. What’s so useless about that?
