Does ‘Inuyasha’ really need a sequel series?

Many anime fans  can recall which anime first sparked their interest in the world of Lifelong Fandom. For many it was “Dragonball Z;” others, “Sailor Moon.” And then there are those who were and forever will be obsessed with “Inuyasha,” the story of Kagome, a modern-day girl who has various adventures in feudal Japan with titular half-demon, Inuyasha. And now, almost two decades later, a sequel series is soon to be premiered. Fans are delighted; others, not. Which fan are you?

How can you not be excited for an “Inuyasha” sequel series? For one thing, “Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon” will focus on not only the daughter of Kagome and Inuyasha (arguably the cutest couple to ever come out of an anime), but the twin daughters of Inuyasha’s half-brother, Sesshomaru. It has fans wondering…who got to tap that?

The trailer of the show not only has that well-known Inuyasha charm (and, of course, beautiful animation), but the promise of some cameos from all the lovable characters from the original series. We only really want to see Koga, though, to be honest. Hope he was able to fill that Kagome-shaped hole in his heart with someone else!

Some stories are so perfect that an extension of them would be a cardinal sin. In the anime sphere, having a sequel series of say, “Cowboy Bebop,” isn’t even thought of it’s so ludicrous. That’s kind of the same with “Inuyasha;” the original series was so unique and refreshing for its time, “Yashahime” almost feels like people are unnecessarily resurrecting the franchise for a quick money grab. Also, some things from the trailer just plain don’t make sense.

Admittedly, worse sequels have been made. Although, honestly, if we’re getting extended series of beloved nineties anime, are there any other surprises we should be keeping our eyes peeled for?
