Favorite new DC superhero show: 'Batwoman' or 'Stargirl'?

The DC universe has a great amount of powerful women in it, from the heavy hitters such as Wonder Woman and Supergirl to the plethora of lesser-known but still badass female characters such as Crazy Jane on “Doom Patrol,” or Thunder and Lightning on “Black Lightning.” But two heroes have recently been the focus of their own shows: the CW’s “Batwoman” and DCU’s “Stargirl.” Which show do you like best?

When “Arrow” began, it clearly channeled Batman in its grittiness and violence but gradually moved away from that format. Its CW siblings in the Arrowverse tend to be lighter as well. That is until “Batwoman” came along. It brought back the dark and dangerous world of Gotham City. Not only that but it gave us a lesbian hero played by a lesbian actress, which is a first even for the diversity within Arrowverse shows. Coronavirus and a major casting change—Ruby Rose left the show—delayed the second season. Though, fans are still anxious for the return of the Bat in whatever form she may take.

The silver-age Justice Society of America has cropped up on TV a couple times, notably on “Smallville” and later on “Legends of Tomorrow.” But “Stargirl” is apparently separate from those takes on the JSA, focusing instead on a new young hero (Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore) taking up the mantle of a fallen predecessor while navigating relocation to a small town. Far less violence than “Titans” and less, ya know, donkey-butt weirdness than “Doom Patrol," this new addition is more geared toward younger viewers but is still fun for older fans.
