There are few things better in life than a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie—except, that is, for maybe the cold cookie dough itself. Some cookie lovers stand firm saying baked cookies are far superior to their dough predecessor. Plus, enjoying cookies after they are baked is safer overall. But some would much rather risk salmonella than live a life without cookie dough. You don't need an oven to enjoy a fresh batch of cookies; all you need is a spoon. Which form of cookie is better?

Cookie dough has a magic to it unlike its baked counterpart. The contrast between cold chocolate chips and soft, sweet dough is the happiest accident nature ever created. Cookie dough may be a lumpy, cold concoction of flour, butter, eggs and sugar, but it might as well be the ice cream of the gods—all you need is a spoon to enjoy.

And speaking of ice cream, there's a reason cookie dough ice cream is one of the country's most popular flavors, yet there is no chocolate chip cookie ice cream equivalent (cookies and cream is not the same).

There is no better scent than fresh chocolate chip cookies being pulled from the oven. You can't beat the final product.

Cookie dough does deserve some recognition, but it should be noted that the dough stage has limitations. Cookie dough is not warm like a fresh baked cookie—or, better yet, a half-baked cookie, which gives baked cookies huge points. There are few problems a warm cookie with melty chocolate chips can't solve.

Plus, baked cookies have much more variety than cookie dough. They can be gooey, chewy, soft or crunchy. No matter how you prefer your chocolate chip cookies, by baking them, you allow your creation to live the life it deserves, rather than cutting it short.

Furthermore, there's a reason you put those tantalizing globs in the oven: You play food-poisoning roulette when you take a spoon to cookie dough. As one Reddit user explains why cookie dough is so addicting for some:

It's the extra thrill of possibly getting salmonella.
